About the Playwright
Playwright Cricket Daniel lives in Bend, Oregon but is a native Californian, born and raised in the San Juaquin Valley. Cricket holds a theater degree from UC Santa Barbara and studied Shakespeare in Cambridge, England. She has an extensive background in improv, stand-up and theater. Cricket is a former member of the national improv troupe Comedy Sportz and has performed stand-up at The Ice House and The Improv. Cricket regularly performed in local community theatre productions. However, it was when she was an audience member one evening at a local production that she found her true calling. Cricket happened to be in the audience watching a play the same night as the playwright and ended up watching him more than the play. By the end of the evening she thought to herself “I wanna be that guy!” The next day she started writing her first play COUPLE DATING. That guy was Michael Slade….thank you Michael!
Cricket has had her plays produced across the country. Her 10 minute play, BREAK DREAMS, was adapted into a short film (starring Susan Isaacs, Garrett Swann and Mary Jo Eustace) and made its world premiere at the 2014 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. BREAK DREAMS was produced in 2014 by the Nylon Fusion Theatre Company in NYC, was a Finalist for the City Theatre’s 2013 National Award for Short Playwriting Contest and selected by the 2012 Six Women Playwriting Festival in Colorado. Her full length play HELEN ON WHEELS was a finalist in the 2015 Route 66 New Play Development Workshop and 2019 Quarter Finalist of the SouthWest Theatre Productions Playwriting Competition.
Cricket is a 2012 recipient of an Arts, Beautification, and Culture Award for her contribution to local theater and is a member of The Dramatist Guild of America. Cricket has trained under Jen Grisanti, Writing Instructor for NBC’s Writers on the Verge and Geoff Harris, former VP of Story and Writing Development at NBC.
Cricket is happily married to her husband Jason of 30 years. Their talented and amazing daughter Spencer, is studying Oceanography at Oregon State University. When Cricket isn’t writing plays, she can be found on the Pickleball Courts.
